Protecting Your Crawl Space

Do You Know About Sealed Crawl Spaces?

Crawl spaces are easy to forget about. Out of sight, out of mind, right? The crawl space in a home may be out of sight, but the effects of excessive moisture in a crawl space should never be overlooked. Here at Clint Miller, we are aware of how important taking care of your crawl space is—especially when it comes to pest control. Having too much humidity or moisture in your crawlspace attracts termites, supports mold growth, and causes wood structures to rot. That’s why we offer dehumidification, moisture barriers, and sealed crawl space services.

Our Crawl Space Services

Sealed Crawl Space

For decades, building codes and common practices used the outside air as the primary means of ventilation and moisture control for crawl spaces. Because of this, many homes built with a crawl space at their foundation in the Southeast have suffered from poor moisture management and poor structural integrity caused by excessive moisture.

Research and modern practices have shown that sealing the crawl space from outside air is much better for the home. Not only does it drastically improve moisture control, but it can also result in significant energy savings when installed properly.

Moisture Barrier

Excessive moisture in a conventionally vented crawl space is one of the biggest crawl space concerns. As moisture increases in or under a structure, so does your risk of structural problems, poor air quality, or unwelcome pests.

Clint Miller provides moisture control by using a high-quality, tear-resistant 6-mil vapor liner to cover the ground. This system, along with proper drainage and a form of mechanical drying, will protect your home’s foundation from excess moisture.

Dehumidification

We use commercial-grade dehumidifiers for your home. We’ll close the vents of the crawlspace to reduce the amount of humid air coming from outside. This way the dehumidifier won’t run continuously to try and combat moisture coming in from the vents.

You’ll also get a Humidistat, an instrument that we install to monitor the humidity in the crawlspace that you can check without going into the crawl space itself. With this service, we come back each year to check the moisture levels and do a general pest control inspection. We’ll even replace your Humidistat’s batteries!
