Types of Cockroaches
There are many types of cockroaches that can be found in your home in the piedmont area of North Carolina. The types of roaches that we see the most are German roaches, Wood roaches, and American roaches. It is important that we know which type of roach we are treating because not all roaches are treated with the same methods. But don’t worry, Clint Miller Exterminating can educate you on how to prevent a cockroach problem; or eliminate any problem you already have! Our professional exterminators offer cockroach pest control in Albemarle, as well as Concord, Harrisburg, Norwood, Charlotte, Kannapolis, Locust, Monroe, Matthews and the surrounding areas.
German roaches are found inside the home, and typically in the kitchen and bathroom areas. They like moisture and damp warm areas such as behind the fridge, beside the stove, and microwave. They also like easy food such as dog food and any other food crumbs.
How to deter German roaches from your home
- Keep food in tightly sealed containers, or in the refrigerator.
- Never leave food, crumbs, or trash lying around the house uncovered.
- Always wash your dirty dishes right away.
- Do not leave dog food bowls uncovered sitting around the house.
- Fix leaky faucets and drains.
When Clint Miller Exterminating comes out to your home it is not necessary for you to take everything out of the cabinets, and drawers, and off the counter tops. As long as the cabinets are straightened up we can use gel bait and put it in the proper places. For German roaches we DO have to come inside, but we may need to treat outside as well, because you may have more than one type of roach.
Wood roaches are mostly found outside. They are attracted to light and will fly into your home especially at night.
How to deter Wood roaches from your home
- Seal any cracks or holes on siding of your house, around water pipes, baseboards, doors, and windows.
- Stack Firewood away from the house, and check it before bringing it inside.
- Keep your gutters clean.
- Sweep leaves away from the home.
There is not any preparation for this treatment. We do not have to come inside for this pest control service. We can do a perimeter and crawlspace/basement spray and take care of the Wood roaches for you. If you continue seeing them after a few weeks, give us a call and we can get a technician back out there. If they are getting in your home because of cracks and crevices, Clint Miller Exterminating would be happy to help identify where they may be getting in.
American roaches are also known as Palmetto bugs. Their major food source is fermenting food, so they can be found anywhere in the house where food is left. The most popular ways they come in your home in boxes, grocery bags, and drains. This is why they are known as “hitchhikers.” They are more commonly found in restaurants, commercial building, offices, grocery stores, etc.
